History
Aboriginal name Yandhai. (McCarthy; 1963).
Description
A perennial stream rising on the eastern end of the Mittagong Range about 21/2 km N of Robertson. It flows generally north in a meandering course for about 145 km to its junction with the Grose River to become the Hawkesbury River. Some of its principal tributaries are the Bargo Warragamba Cordeaux and Cataract Rivers.
Origin
Named by Governor Arthur Phillip in 1789 in honour of Evan Nepean then the Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department.(Nepean had a major hand in organinsing the First Fleet and the administration system for the new colony of NSW). (Appleton; 1992)
