A town on the Murrumbidgee River. It is at the junction of the Cobb and Sturt Highways about 120 km N of Deniliquin. Boundaries shown on map marked GNB 3773

Origin

Named after John Hay who was member for the district in 1859 and later Sir John Hay. (Infor. from RAHS Journal Vol 38 pt 3) HAY - A crossing place in the Murrumbidgee River previously named Langs Crossing. Named after Sir John Hay M.L.A. who was Minister for Lands 3/10/1856-9/9/1857. Hay was proclaimed a municipal district in 1872.
