For: place where possums were cut out of trees; Also: waterhole(s) containing fish. Also: small creek with little waterholes containing fish. (MacKenzie Among Pastoralists). Also: waterholes containing fish. (McCarthy. 1963).
Origin
The name was current in early squatting days about 1830. In the first record the name is given to a habitation station or outstation hut not to the stream now named Quipolly Creek. The same source however (Dixon) similarly names Quirindi Station and not that stream. It is safe to assume that the name was first obtained from local Aborigines.
