Orara River (RIVER), NSW Details
Description
A perennial stream rising about 13 miles east of Dorrigo. It flows in a meandering course generally north east north and north west for about 70 miles into the Clarence River about 4 miles south east of the village of Copmanhurst.
Meaning
Also:(home of the) perch. The fish is still found plentifully in this river.(Oceania;Vol.XXXIVNo.4p.283;June1964).
Origin
Some say the original word was Urara. Where the perch live. This stream was rich in perch Murray Cod and eels and provided much food for Aborigines and settlers. (GNB 159)
