Description
A locality about 3 km SSE of Eltham and 11 km E by N of Lismore.
Meaning
For: a place outside or out of bounds; Also: a patch of grass in a scrub. The latter explanation is the more likely meaning. Although there may have been a fellow driving a cow along a paddock here name not derived from this source. (Refernce as above).

Aboriginal.Kow-wal-ong.(Rich.Twd.Reg.Lib. & Rich.R.Hist.Soc.1983). Originally Kow-wal-ong. (Richmond Tweed Regional Library & Richmond River Historical Society. 1983). Also: Possibly derived from Gidhabal and Yugambeh gulany for scrub tick. (M.Sharpe).
