Ernie Knight Oval (RESERVE), NSW Details
History
The oval was known for many years as Railway Oval because of its location next to the now dismantled railway station.
Description
A recreational oval used for cricket bounded by Warren Road (Oxley Highway) Railway Street and Bundy Street Gilgandra. It is lot 178 of DP752554.
Origin
Ernie Knight (1944-1995) worked in the Councils parks for 30 years. He was Parks and Gardens Foreman for 16 years. Mr Knight worked many voluntary hours to ensure the ovals were watered and ready for play and was a great friend to all sporting associations in the community. A highly respected member of the Aboriginal community.
