History
A sacred site. The name Wollumbin refers to the whole of the central vent and its surrounding ring dykes. The first recorded European use of the name Wollumbin is Pastoral Selection. See file for more info.

A mountain about 6 km W by N of the town of Uki and 14 km WSW of Murwillumbah. This feature is dual named.
Meaning
From the Bandjalung-Yugambeh dialect chain word `Wollumbin meaning the patriach of mountains. J A Gresty. The Numinbah Valley. p67 1947.
Origin
Aboriginal/European. Named by Capt. James Cook who saw this peak when his ship was approaching the coast on 16th May 1770.
