History
Originally Dhurga Aboriginal land (Appleton 1992) Has been declared a historic village by the National Trust.
Description
A town situated about 2.5 km ENE of Mount Gillamatong and about 63 km ESE of Canberra and 84 km S of Goulburn.
Origin
Thomas Braidwood Wilson (1792-1843) was a surgeon in the Royal Navy who undertook many voyages to Australia. He was granted land in Van Diemens Land as reward for exploration and discoveries in what is now Western Australia. In 1826 he transferred this to New South Wales Braidwood is located on the site of his grant. (ADB 2;612)
