History
The name had its history in the southern tablelands expedition of 1798 sent out by Governor Hunter and an ex-convict named John Wilson. The recorder of that party whose name was not mentioned at the time

A watercourse about 8km long that rises about 400m W of Mt Wanganderry and flows generally south into Joadja Creek.
Origin
In a letter by King the name Barrallier was used but was misprinted and the name Barracks came into use.
