Rangari Creek (STREAM), NSW Details
History
On 11 Nov 1966 the name `Rangira Creek` was assigned to the stream. In May 1996 the Council wanted to correct the name to `Rangari Creek` which is that accepted locally.
Description
A non perennial creek rising in the hills north of Rangira trigonometrical station. It flows West of South for some 40 km towards the Namoi River. Its course becomes indefinite on the flat country about 11 km East of North from Gunnedah.
Origin
The fact that two contiguous parishes - Rangira and Rangiri - are so named suggests a common origin. Australian aboriginal names beginning with letter R are uncommon but plentiful in Maori and Polynesian. Various indices and lists of names in atlases and cyclopaedia of names including lists of ships names have failed to reveal origin.
