Fingal (TOWN), NSW Details
History
Aboriginal inhabitants called area Pooningbar or Puningbar this was their cemetery which utilised the sand and caves in the wide band of solodified lava which crossed from river to sea. (Reference as above)
Origin
Aboriginal. John Oxley named area presumably after Fingals Cave on the island of Staffa. (Richmond Tweed Regional Library. 1984).
