History
The Hill End Progress Assoc. suggested this name. It was endorsed by the Council at its meeting on 10 May 1996 and strongly supported by the local community.
Description
A picnicking area on the western side of the Turon River. It is situated 1.2 km NE of the confluence of the Turon and Macquarie rivers and on the opposite side of the Turon to Sailors Bluff. It is accessed from The Bridle Track and is part of Crown Land in Portion 11.
Origin
Mary Ann Flynn (01.04.1909 - 13.12.1995) started as assistant postmistress at Hill End in 1932 and became the postmistress in 1945. Apart from running the post office her duties included operating a manual telephone exchange. In 1992 she received an Advance Australia Award for community service. She worked up until her death in 1995.
