History
This name was proposed by Mr K Green of the Blacktown Councils Parks Management Committee. The area was previously referred to as reserve 392. (Blacktown Council proposal 30 April 1999)
Description
A reserve in Kings Langley. It is located on the corner of Joseph Banks Drive and Sparman Crescent and extends south to Vardys Road. It occupies Lot 339 of DP 246683 part of Lot 450 of DP 251453 Lot 3006 of DP 252847 Lot 1411 of DP 255567 Lot 127 of DP 258110 Lot 1512 of DP 258143 Lot 943 of DP 577485 and lots 1610-1611 of DP 708700. Reserve 392.
Origin
Named after Sir Joseph Banks (13.02.1743 - 19.06.1820) naturalist and patron of science. In 1768 on the suggestion of the Royal Society Banks accompanied Captain James Cook on his expedition to observe the transit of Venus. Banks made many collections and observations on the eastern coast of Australia. (Australian Dictionary of Biography)
