Byrock (VILLAGE), NSW Details
Description
A village about 76 km SE of Bourke on the Mitchell Highway.
Origin
The name was given to the pastoral station in the proximity of an outcrop of rock. (Reed 1969). Also: the name come from a rock hole set in granite the outcrop being called Bai by the Nyammba tribe. This became the Bye Rockhole then Bye Rock then Byrock. (See letter 23.5.97 on file GNB3632).
