Description
A village situated on River Lett about 8 km S of Lithgow and 134 km NW of Sydney. Situated in the Hartley Valley it is now administered by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Boundaries within the Lithgow Council area shown on map GNB3689.
Meaning
The name means stag hill. (Reed 1969).
Origin
Governor Macquarie named this beautiful extensive vale of five miles the vale of Clwydd q.v. in 1815. The township was formed and named in 1838 after a place in Northumberland.
