History
The river was explored by Henry Dangar in 1825 it first appears in Survey Reports and maps for 1826. (Place Names of Northern NSW Atchison 1976).
Description
A perennial stream rising about 9.6 km S by E of Nundle. It flows generally ESE for about 95km into the Manning River at Bretti.
Origin
So named by Mitchell after Lt. Col.Andrew Barnard (now known as Coliban) P. 33-34. (Information from Some Peninsular Names in Australia Felix Major T.C. Sargent).
