Ettalong Beach Reserve (RESERVE), NSW Details
History
The name Ettalong Beach Foreshore Reserve was used for many years (Gosford Council letter dated 23 February 1998). This name was proposed but the Board suggested it should be shortened.
Description
A reserve adjacent to The Esplanade at Ettalong Beach. It is located between Kourung Street and Picnic Parade and is part of Crown Reserve R 82759.
Meaning
Ettalong means a place for drinking.
Origin
The name reflects the location of the reserve. Ettalong is an Aboriginal word. It was first used in 1830 by Surveyor General Sir Thomas Mitchell who directed the main survey work in the area and ordered that original names should be used if they could be ascertained.
