Laptop Research - m1 mac pro vs hp omen 17

Comparing the M1 Mac Pro to a Intel HP Omen

Actually comparing Mac M1's to Gaming PC's in general. I just picked a specced hp omen for this as its around the same price as a mac.

Hardware is beefier on PC but Mac's are so much... neater.

Its hard to comare these two as their purposes are quite different. M1 Mac is more of a desktop and the HP Omen is a big beefy gaming laptop.

I have to decide which is more important, gaming and noise vs quiet and battery life.

Battery Life: HP Omen will probably get about 4 hours battery life, and the M1 Mac has about 15-20 hours. Mac Wins

Gaming: HP Omen wins this, RTX 2060 and 16 gig ram, plus the large monitor.

Here are the specs:

  Macbook Pro M1 OMEN Laptop - 17-cb1024tx

$2200 with 512 ssd

16 GB DDR4-2933 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB)

Battery 12-18 Hours 1.5 - 4 Hours

I guess the question here is not really specs, its do i want to game or not.

Questions

Do i want to game on it: Sometimes, but i have a desktop for gaming

What is its major usage: work and coding.

Can i handle the OS? Im not really sure if i can switch to mac os or not, there is no real way of testing this either. It looks nice, but i have never used mac os, so its a major change. I have been using windows since version 3.1, so massive change. It might be nice.

Also the mac air m1 is an option. I cant decide.

With my current and older laptops the thing that annoyed me the most was fan noise, even with this dell insperon if i do anything even run a meeting in firefox google meet the fans crank up. Very annoying. So mac is a good option for that with no fan on the air and a quiet fan on the pro.

I game rarely esp seriously on the laptop anyway, so i think the mac is a better option again.

Can i handle the mac os, im really not sure, i have an iphone so i guess that will integrate and also the other things in the mac ecosystem will work together such as air pods.

They charge an extra $300 for the 256 ssd storage upgrade somehow! how that does work.

SSD storage is cheap, usually but then the apple tax applies here i guess, dont like it then too bad.

It might be time for a change, at least on the laptop side of things, ill keep the desktop as windows for gaming and more heavy stuff and then the laptop can be a work and coding device that is nice and small and quiet with good batt life.

Do i pay the extra for the increased storage or wait until updated m1's come out and see if they reduce the storage cost or not.

According to this article here i think i should wait for the updated m1x and m2 versions of these mac's and see what the costs and storage options are, also they may reduce the price of the current model.

I mean i could wait for a while, and there is always going to be something newer around the corner, not like i need something right this minute.
