History

The name was proposed by the Ocean Shores Tidy Town Committee in an application dated 18 September 1995.

Description

A reserve on the corner of Warrambool Road and Tongarra Drive in Ocean Shores. It occupies part of Lot 2 of DP 735732. An area of approx 2 acres it contains a steep densely timbered descent from the Lions Lookout to a fairly flat plateau. There is a Council water reservoir on the reserve.

Origin

Don Shipway (1911 - 1994) and his wife lived in Ocean Shores from 1970 and he instigated town status in 1995. He was the founder of the Ocean Shores Tidy Town group. The reserve has a 180 degree view of the ocean and passing ships so the name is relevant to the reserve for this reason as well.
